Tell Ex-Im to Stop Financing the Destruction of the Great Barrier Reef

The taxpayer-funded U.S. Export-Import Bank is considering financing a massive Australian coal project, which includes dredging three million tons of seabed from the bottom of the Great Barrier Reef for a coal export terminal. Wall Street has largely abandoned this toxic project which threatens the reef and will contribute to the climate crisis at the very moment we must redouble our efforts to cut carbon emissions.

The Great Barrier Reef is a special place that is home to a number of endangered species, including green and loggerhead turtles. This critical habitat is already threatened by climate change, with scientists warning that the time is running out to protect the reef from irreversible damage. We can't afford to introduce even more toxic fossil fuels into the mix if we want to protect this treasured natural wonder.

Tell Ex-Im Chair Fred Hochberg: Don't finance the destruction of the Great Barrier Reef!
Dear Mr. Hochberg,

As a resident and taxpayer, I am concerned about our tax dollars being used in ways that contribute to climate change and environmental destruction. I'm alarmed by recent reports that the U.S. Exports-Imports Bank is considering financing Adani's Carmichael coal mine and the expansion of the Abbot Point coal port in Australia, threatening the Great Barrier Reef. Some of Wall Street's biggest investment banks have pledged not to finance the project and I urge you to do the same.

The Great Barrier Reef is an ecological wonder that cannot be replaced and is home to endangered species, including green and loggerhead turtles. On top of the destruction of this critical habitat, the expansion of the Abbot Point coal port would contribute to the climate crisis at the very moment we must redouble our efforts to cut carbon emissions. Please don't finance this toxic project.
