Obama: We Must Clean Up Bush-Era Torture

A damning new bipartisan report concluded that the United States engaged in torture of detainees after 9/11, and the blame goes straight to the top.

The task force denied President Bush's claims that torture cases stemmed from a "few bad apples." Instead, it put the blame squarely on his denial of Geneva Convention rights to prisoners in Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay and his authorization of "enhanced interrogation techniques."

Perhaps most tragic, the report concluded that despite all the harm caused, torture produced no significant information to help in the war on terror.

The United States has no business judging others' acts as long as our own sordid history of torture goes unaddressed. These crimes may have occurred under Bush's watch, but President Obama can't continue to deflect attention away from torture allegations.

Demand that President Obama come clean on torture and take steps to make sure it never happens again.
Dear President Obama,

I was deeply disturbed to read about the findings of a bipartisan task force that investigated allegations of U.S. torturing of detainees in Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay. I urge you to take strong, immediate action to come clean on U.S. torture and enact transparency policies to prevent another torture scandal.

Your predecessor may have authorized and encouraged torture, but as President of the United States, it's your job to right our country's wrongs, no matter whose fault they are. Please, right America's hypocrisy and follow the recommendations of this task force.
