Urge Lawmakers to Pass the Paycheck Fairness Act

  • by: Natasha N.
  • recipient: US Senate and House of Representatives

Even in this day and age, American women make an average of just 78 cents on the dollar compared to their male colleagues. The wage gap is even more pronounced for women of color.

But paycheck fairness isn't just a question of women's equality — it is also a question of basic economic security for millions of American families. In nearly two-thirds of American families with children, women are either the primary breadwinner or contribute at least 25 percent of the family's income.

Passing the Paycheck Fairness Act would be an important step in reducing the wage gap, promoting equality, and improving stability and security for millions of families. But Congress has, so far failed to act.

Speak out for fairness, equality, and opportunity. Sign the petition to urge your US Representative and Senators to support the Paycheck Fairness Act today.

Dear Decision Maker,

I strongly urge you to support the Paycheck Fairness Act (H.R. 620, S. 862). With women making far less than their male counterparts -- and many women of color making even less -- this is not only an issue of fairness to women. It is also a question of basic economic security for millions of families.

In nearly two-thirds of American families with children, women are either the primary breadwinner or contribute at least 25 percent of the family's income. Narrowing the wage gap would make it easier for these families to make ends meet and spur economic activity in the economy.

Paycheck fairness isn't just a women's issue. This is an American issue -- and one that I hope you will work hard to address.

Sincerely,
