Tell George Osborne to build the affordable homes we need

Last year, Francesca, pictured, gave birth to her baby son whilst living in a hostel.

A hostel is no place to have children, but she had no choice. There was no room for her to live at her mum's house and her wages weren't enough to cover the high renting costs in her area.

In a hostel there's no privacy. Francesca shared a room with her 11-year-old daughter and new-born son, which was tough enough. But they also had to share a bathroom with other families.

We can't let things carry on this way.

As Chancellor, George Osborne has the chance to turn this around in his spending review this November. We need him to invest in building 250,000 desperately needed homes a year - including 125,000 social and affordable homes for ordinary people. We also need him to replace any high-value council properties that are being sold off.

Join Shelter's campaign telling George Osborne to invest in affordable homes that ordinary people like Francesca can afford to buy or rent.

Thousands of families like Francesca's are stuck in hostels. Until George Osborne invests in more affordable homes, they'll have little hope in ever finding a secure home. Especially if the Government decides to sell off social housing and not replace it.
