Save Women in Darfur from Abuse, Starvation, and Genocide

Urgent update: Women and girls are facing the struggle of their lives in Darfur. While this situation is bleak for millions of Darfurians, women and girls are particularly at risk. In addition to beinng forced from their homes in to cramped refugee camps, where food is scarce and medical help is almost non-existent, sexual assault and rape is common.

It has been over two months since the government of Sudan agreed to protect the basic human rights of innocent civilians in Darfur. But Sudan has yet to follow through on this promise.

The UN Security Council has already authorized a peacekeeping force, but they are not able to reach Darfur until the Sudanese government lets them enter the country. All the while, life is getting worse for girls and women trapped in the violence. That's why it's so important that our leaders demand that the peacekeepers are admitted.

This is our best chance to stop the violence against women in Darfur. Speak up for the women and girls who have no voice: Tell UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and President Bush to protect women from abuse, starvation, and genocide by sending aid to Darfur!

Dear [Decision Maker]

Everyday, the 2.5 million people chased from their homes in Darfur face the threat of starvation, disease, and rape, while the few lucky enough to remain in their homes risk displacement, torture, and murder. Therefore, we call on you to do the following:

- Push for the immediate deployment of the already-authorized UN peacekeeping force.

- Strengthen the understaffed African Union force already in Darfur until the UN force can be deployed.

- Establish a no-fly zone.

- Increase humanitarian aid and ensure access for delivery.
