Stop the Attack on Canadian Charities

Canadian charities do important work under difficult circumstances. But instead of helping these non-profit organizations, Stephen Harper is spending $13-million to audit their "political activities"—like working to end poverty or clean up our environment.

Since many of these charities have been critical of Conservative policies, they fear they are being unfairly targeted. That fear has no place in a modern democracy like Canada.

Join Tom Mulcair's New Democrats and send Stephen Harper a strong message:

It's time to stop the political witch hunt against Canadian charities. Take action today and call on the Government of Canada to halt its politically-motivated tax “audits” of Canadian charities.
We the undersigned Canadian residents recognize the following:

* Instead of cracking down on wealthy tax cheats, Conservatives have given the Canada Revenue Agency an additional $13 million to audit the "political activities" of Canadian charities;

* These audits are sending a chill through Canada's charitable sector—disrupting important work and making many scared to speak out about government policies;

* Non-partisan advocacy on issues like poverty reduction, the environment, human rights and international development should not be penalized;

THEREFORE we call on the Government of Canada to halt its politically-motivated tax "audits" of Canadian charities.
