Cockfighting is a felony in Texas, but the current law only applies to the people that actually place their own rooster into the pit to fight.

It does not cover spectators who attend the events and bet on the roosters' lives and it doesn't criminalize people who raise the birds with the intention of fighting them.

In addition, the law doesn't outlaw the buying and selling of cockfighting paraphernalia, like the tiny razors that quicken the killing.
