End Cockfight Cruelty in Texas
Cockfighting is a felony in Texas, but the current law only applies to the people that actually place their own rooster into the pit to fight.
It does not cover spectators who attend the events and bet on the roosters' lives and it doesn't criminalize people who raise the birds with the intention of fighting them.
In addition, the law doesn't outlaw the buying and selling of cockfighting paraphernalia, like the tiny razors that quicken the killing.
Please sign this petition to urge legislators to pass House Bill 1043, which closes loopholes in Texas's cockfighting laws. Help end this cruel, violent sport!
Dear [Decision Maker]
I urge you to vote to end cockfighting cruelty in Texas by supporting House Bill 1043.
The many loopholes in Texas's cockfighting legislation has made our state a magnet for the violent sport. Roosters are often forced to take adrenaline enhancing drugs, wear razor blades on their legs, and fight to the bloody death.
Please support the bill that makes it easier to prosecute those involved in the cruel sport of cockfighting. Pass House Bill 1043.
