Bring America's Clean Energy Future to Life

Target: U.S. Senate
Sponsored by: Sierra Club
The House of Representatives has just passed a historic energy bill.

The Senate will vote on the same bill soon. All the pieces are in place: A national renewable electricity standard means consumers across the country would save more than $13 billion on their energy bills by 2020.

Raising fuel economy standards will save American consumers $25 billion at the pump, create 170,800 new jobs in America, and cut U.S. global warming pollution from passenger vehicles 21 percent by 2030.

All the pieces are there, now the Senate just needs to flip the switch on America's new energy future before it heads home for the year!

deadline: 11-26-2008

To: US Senators

I am urging you to help pass the strongest clean energy provisions in the energy bill, including a renewable electricity standard of 15 percent by 2020. We also need to increase fuel economy standards to 35 mpg by 2020 in the final energy bill.

The House just passed an energy package that accomplishes these crucial goals and will clean up our energy and reduce our dependence on foreign sources of oil. Please follow their leadership by voting yes on the upcoming energy bill in the Senate, H.R. 6.

I am concerned about the impact of our oil dependence on the cost of filling up my gas tank. It is crucial that the U.S. pass this energy bill in order to diversify fuel sources and create more efficient vehicles. I know we have the ability to produce clean electricity and make our cars go farther on a gallon of gas.

The House has already spoken - please follow their lead by supporting H.R. 6, a bill that will raise fuel economy standards and implement a national renewable electricity standard.

Sincerely,

Come on people - it's time to pull up your big-girl panties and actually do something right for a change! Think of the people - your people - the ones who you represent - instead of yourselves!

The legacy I wish to leave for future generations is not one of destruction and consumption but one of preservation and change. We need to change our culture for the sake of all mankind. Just think, if we had invested all the billions spent in Iraq on developing and implementing new, cleaner alternative energy consumption practices. We could have been steps ahead, instead we continue to develop our dependency on oil and line the pockets of those who force these practices on us. Stand up for change!!!
