Stop Puppy Mills Throughout Canada!

Sponsored by: Humane Society International/Canada

Puppy mills are large scale operations that force "breeder dogs" to produce litter after litter to support consumer demand for purebred pets. These puppies are sold in pet stores or over the Internet, storefronts that mask the suffering, disease, malnutrition and loneliness of puppy mills. Some die within days or weeks of purchase.

Most people are unaware that when they buy a purebred puppy they are often supporting a cruel and inhumane industry. By choosing not to buy your next pet or any pet supplies from retail stores or Internet sites that sell live dogs or cats, you are directly helping to end this cycle of cruelty.

You can help stop this suffering. Please sign our pledge to stop puppy mills!

I will do my part to help stop puppy mills. I pledge to help end this cycle of cruelty by:
- Choosing not to buy my next pet from a pet store or Internet site
- Refusing to buy supplies from any pet store or Internet site that sells puppies
- Supporting stronger federal and provincial laws to stop puppy mills from operating in Canada

I would never buy a puppy from a store or from a breeder, but get one from a shelter or from a rescue center. I also tell every one I know about puppy mills. It amazes me the number of people who still buy from those sources.

It is really important to close all puppy mills for the welfare of pets and future owners. Adoption from a shelter is still better against animal overpopulation.

http://www.winsomekennels.com/ ----- Original Message ----- Subject: 'No Puppy Mills Canada' How can we stop this abuse. See attached Metal Cargo containers that house the 150 dogs at this huge commerical kennel in BC. The sunshine coast regional district wrote this to me. See below As a matter of policy we are not responding to complaints from people that do not live in the SCRD. I left a telephone message for you last week after we spoke on the phone, that we are not addressing your concerns. And that I wanted to know where/how you received the information about Mr. Sheppard’s property. Is it all hearsay or did you witness this yourself? What is your interest in this if you do not live on the coast? Sue Spurgeon Bylaw Compliance Officer Our message to them This is the picture of the new building the Mr. Sheppard say's the SCRD has approved for his kennel. But it does not meet the SCRD by-laws for kennels buildings #1 no natural light. How is a kennel approved that does not meet your own by-laws. Why is this kennel not required to update the kennel to code. Person number two that is now suing Mr. Sheppard for theft has informed us this kennel has just been finished with the front doors just put on the cargo containers to house dogs. This has been completed since the court case. See attach the court file for records. He is to meet the SCRD requirements for the kennel or it is to go back to court. We have forwarded this onto the SPCA Vancouver investigations Team and several organizations involved in stopping mistreated animals. As this needs to be addressed and looked into but no one seems to want to deal with Mr. Sheppard. We are aware that the last SPCA manager was fired from Sunshine Coast and when she left all the complaint files on Mr. Sheppard disappeared . I hope this is not the case with the SCRD but rather something else. Comments back from SCRD Please submit a signed letter and we will investigate your concerns. We do not take anonymous complaints, therefore we will need your name, address and phone number. Thank you Sue Spurgeon Bylaw Compliance Officer I called the Sunshine coast SPCA they called me back asked me to contact Vancouver as they do not have the money and time to investigate this kennel. They are not government funded the manager runs the entire shelter on donations. The last Manager was fired from this shelter for all 10 complaints and records on this kennel disappeared when she left. He makes up to 500,000 a year off his dogs and has a horrible temper. He threatens anyone that tries to talk about his kennel and history. People have heard three different occations of gun shots at the property and can't help but wonder if he is shooting sick dogs. The police were called but the owner wouldn't let them on the property with out a warrant. (if you have nothing to hide why wouldn't you let them on) Kijiji classifieds have multiple adds for this kennel. He claims that his dogs are all health tested but will never provide records or proof of it. We have several letters from people with dogs from Winsome Kennels with hip, elbow, skin and aggression problems. PLEASE HELP SAVE THESE POOR DOGS!!! Owning over a certain number of dogs should be agaist the law. LOOK PAST THE SET UP VIRTUAL TOUR staged pictures and see the dogs sad faces. Attached picture of enclosure the cargo containers used to house dogs and link to 16 or more litters. Why won't anyone help these dogs!

All mills of this nature need to be shut down. I have never bought an animal off the internet. Nor does the pet store I use sell cats or dogs! Stricter laws need to be in place against puppy mills in Canada.Take a stand. Only we and others can help to end animal cruelty!

I bought my shepherd cross at the Vancouver Pound. I encourage everyone to adopt from rescue societies, the spca, the city pound. Don't buy from puppy mills. Stop the abuse and neglect.

i bought a "puppy mill" dog... she was very ill for the first 6 YEARS of her life but ended up giving me nearly 18 years of unconditional love, loyalty and happiness... i often wonder how her siblings fared... no animal should be bred or treated inhumanely... she looked a lot like the little white pup in your picture....her name was Wicky... this is for you, my baby...
