Keep BSL out of Illinois

Target: Michel Tyron, Repersentitive
Sponsor: Tina Tombaugh
  • Signatures: 722
  • Goal: 1,000
  • Deadline: 12-30-2006
Introduced by Rep. Michael Tryon on December 1st, 2005, HB4213 automatically deems American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, "pit bulls," Pit Bull Terriers, Rottweilers and Staffordshire Terriers vicious and requires owners of these and other dangerous dogs to maintain liability insurance . As AKC reported last month, the bill further restricts the regulations for keeping these dogs, including requiring them to be muzzled and leashed whenever outside their owners' residence, even in a fenced back-yard. Fines for violations will increase to a minimum of $1001.
Please sign and help keep bsl out of Illinois! Let them know that PitBulls and the named dogs above are not VICIOUS DOGS! Let them know that we SHOULDNT have to muzzle our family pets just to walk to the sidewalk! Let them know that RACIAL PROFILING IS WRONG!

729 12:23 pm PST, Nov 19 Ms. Devon Montgomery 21 Female Toledo Ohio no no     yes
728 8:47 pm PST, Nov 5 Mr. Anonymous 24 Male herrin Illinois no i do not think we should have a bsl law. rather we should be stricter on who is allowed a dog of this caliber. i had it explained to me like this. if u go to buy a crotchrocket u dont start out with a 1200cc bike. u get a 600cc bike until u can learn to contol it and learn the ins and outs of owning something that is this powerful and capable of becomeing more than u can handle no     send them to jail. with random visits to see if they have bought another dog or animal after they have gotten out.
727 7:37 am PDT, Sep 12 Mr. Andrew Newtson 22 Male Gulf Shores Alabama There shouldn't be any laws stating that a group of animals should be band just because of a small group were aggressive. If that is the case then my wife's Yorkie should be at the top..... Hell No!!!!!!! The SON OF A B**CH who made the law should have to walk around all day for a week to see what it is like being muzzled.     YES that is way PITBULLS are thought of as being so aggressive. Micheal Vick should have his A** whopped for it.
726 10:20 am PDT, Aug 11   Kelly Casper 0 Female Auburn Georgia no not if they're not aggressive     YES!
725 9:49 pm PDT, Aug 2 Mrs. ALICIA REESE 22 Female New Baden Illinois NEVER Not if they are not aggressive     YES

723 11:45 am PDT, Jun 25 Ms. S Rodrigues 52 Female Montreal   A capital NO on that one. Depends on the situtation. In general, no.     Absolutely, they are living, breathing creatures of earth,m exactly like us. They desreve the fullest protection we can possibly give them.
722 3:44 pm PDT, Jun 19 Ms. Kristen Fields 23 Female Mt. Carmel Illinois No it should not, all dogs can be rehabilitated, and all dogs are dangerous don't hate the breed, hate the bad owner. No, muzzles are nice in some situations, like a dog that got hit by a car, or introductions to other animals but not when you are just walking a dog and spending time out in your community.     Yes, I believe that there should be a law that states that anyone that mistreats animals should be unable to own an animal for a year...or more depending on the situation.
721 7:55 pm PDT, Jun 3   Carissa Cornier-Umana 25 Female Addison Illinois NO! we should have stricter laws about mistreating animals, and tougher consequences against people who violate these laws! NO!     yes!
720 7:40 am PDT, May 30   Samantha Walker 39 Female Indianapolis Indiana NO, BSL ARE RIDICULOUS! They should make laws against bad owners!!! NO, they should muzzle bad owners!     YES, JAIL seems very appropriate.
719 6:50 am PDT, May 16 Ms. Silky Wylder 40 Female Chippewa Falls Wisconsin . .
718 4:36 pm PDT, May 14 Ms. Laura Jaramillo 20 Female Bogotá   No No!
717 3:35 am PDT, May 13 Ms. Elaine Robinson 21 Female Wolverhampton   NO NO     YES
716 9:10 am PDT, May 6 Ms. Leslie Fusinato 28 Female Spring Valley Illinois No, punish the deed not the breed. Stop persecuting these animals and persecute the criminals who are turning this beautiful and loving breed into citizens not fit for society! No, if little bad kids are not leashed why should my perfectly behaved, trained and listening dogs have to be muzzled?     Absolutely, there is no room in the world for mistreating and abusing (through fighting) animals or any member of society that cannot rightfully speak for themselves.
715 11:43 pm PDT, May 3 Mrs. Joan Fleming 49 Female Shelbyville Tennessee no only if they have shown themselves to need extra control     yes
714 10:29 pm PDT, Apr 30   Anonymous 37 Female Kankakee Illinois No ! BSL is a violation of the constitution, specifically the 14th amendment. To enforce unconstitutional laws is illegal, and should not be tolerated by Americans. If the dog bites then a muzzle in public is okay. But no animal should have to be muzzled in it's own home or yard. To do so would be abusive.     Yes, Punish the Deed NOT the Breed !
713 9:43 am PDT, Apr 26 Mrs. Carrie Kennedy 30 Female Peoria Illinois I do not believe in any type of breed-specific legislation. No     Yes
712 7:48 am PDT, Apr 13 Mrs. Anonymous 30 Female effingham Illinois BSL is ridiculous no     yes
711 2:43 am PDT, Mar 18 Mr. Anonymous 33 Male newton Illinois no,i dont think so. no     yes
710 11:24 pm PST, Mar 4   Smoke Blunts All Day 21 Male Champaign Illinois Illinois should have no laws regarding banning dogs. They should ban ignorant people who don't know how to train a dog. Only if you feel it is necessary to protect yourself or others and if you need to do that, you do not need a dog.     Yes. Capital Punishment same as they did to their animals.
709 8:50 am PST, Mar 2   alexander lenert 23 Male oswego il Illinois The BSL law is cruel and discriminating. The only reason people have prejudices against Pit Bulls and other "vicious" breeds is because they are uneducated about them. These breeds of dogs are actually some of the best companions. No way! Every dog is different. To say that an entire breed of dogs should be muzzled, is like saying every human needs rehab. Any pet has the ability to be a good one, it's just up to the owner to train them correctly.     I believe animal cruelty should be punishable to a certain extent. When it comes to breeding the animals specifically for fighting, yes. Then you are taking away the animal's right to a happy and healthy life.
708 6:15 am PST, Feb 27   Anonymous 21 Female Plainfield Illinois no one should tell me or my son what kind of pet we can or cant have....i have a "pit bull" named lacey...my son pulls on her ears bites her jumps on her and never once has she shown even the slight sense of annoyance let alone aggression NO as a vet tech i know the harm muzzling can do... if the dog doesnt snap at strangers he or she doesnt need a muzzle... the muzzle is what upsets the dogs the most.....     our animals are\ our pets part of our homes and families...look at it this way would you punish a man for beating his son or daughter? so why not punish a man or even a woman for beating or mistreating his dog
707 7:22 pm PST, Feb 4 Ms. Anonymous 32 Female Saint Charles Illinois no no     yes
706 6:00 pm PST, Dec 24 Mr. cory spurgeon 0 Male lansing Illinois No way. I'm the proud owner of 2 apbt and would not be willing to pay any extra insurance or muzzle my dogs when walking. What if he was attacked by a lab or even some other breed . They would be able to defend them selfes No muzzles are wrong the only time I would ever muzzle my dogs would be during breeding as a precaution. Both dogs should always be muzzled durin breeding     Yes, any person who can fight 2 animals in a blood sport is far more capable of comiting worse violent crimes and is not fit for society and by their actions make pit bulls look the same witch is just a bold lie
704 9:42 am PST, Nov 21 Ms. petra plesovszki 23 Female red bud Illinois i do not think Illinois should have this law at all. instead punish the owners whom mistreat the dogs. i think it should be advised if the dog is takin out into public where there's alot of people otherwise no...     YES!! that is something that definatly needs to change.
703 4:18 pm PST, Nov 4   Corinne Shear 36 Female Kankakee Illinois NO to BSL- My dogs are a part of my family and i will not give them up because of prejudice and fear of ignorant people. Only if they have a record of biting     YES-harsh penalties should affect the people and rehabilitate the animals.
702 11:14 am PDT, Oct 14   Nicole Oskins 20 Female Roscoe Illinois NO! It is completely unfair, if you want to prevent vicious dog attacks raise the awareness on drug use and pit fighting. I am NOT going to lose my right to own these wonderful dogs. Not unless they are actually shown to be INDIVIDUALLY aggressive.     YES!
701 9:42 pm PDT, Sep 24 Mr. Mike Mangiardi 26 Male Addison Illinois ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!     ABSOLUTELY!!!

Keep BSL out of Illinois

Breed Specific Legislation is wrong. They are telling you that you can NOT own a certain dog because of its BREED! Racial Profiling is WRONG, Responsible pet owners shouldnt have to move out of the state to keep there family pets. We shouldnt have to muzzle our pets just to walk down the sidewalk! Let them know its wrong and we dont WANT their BSL LAWS IN ILLINOIS!!
