Stand Strong Against Polar Bear Hunting

Target: Dale Hall, Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
Sponsored by: Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund
Hunting polar bears is illegal in the United States. The recent decision to list the polar bear as "threatened" under the Endangered Species Act closed a gaping loophole in the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) that had allowed wealthy U.S. trophy hunters to kill polar bears in Canada, where such hunting is legal, and import polar bear trophies into the U.S.

But now Safari Club International, a big game trophy hunters' club, is suing the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to reverse this ban on importing polar bear trophies. More than 900 polar bear heads and hides had been imported into the U.S since 1994 because of the MMPA loophole.

We have to do everything we can to prevent the polar bear's downward spiral. We need the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to stand strong on polar bear trophy hunting - urge Director Dale Hall to uphold the ban on importing polar bear hunting trophies from Canada.

Dear Director Hall,

I am writing in support of the recent ban on importation of polar bear trophies from Canada. I am disturbed to learn about Safari Club International's attempts to reverse this ban.

Polar bear populations are already declining due to melting sea ice, and bears continue to be stressed and threatened due to oil and gas exploration. Polar bears do not need the added stress from trophy hunting.

Polar bears are listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act and should be protected. Please stand firm on prohibiting the importation of polar bear parts.

Sincerely,
[Your name here]

why should some sick twisted people be able to reverse an important ban? what if i decided to sue because murder was illegal? would it be made legal? that is what hunting is - murder.

I’m sickened and disgusted. Please stop the Holocaust already!! Animal Abuse, Sick Behavior AND THE KILLING OF THE ANIMALS. The World Is Watching You and we will take action.. How do you sleep at night? People who do these things to innocent animals (who scream and cry and feel the pain), should be arrested and put in jail. And I will work on this to happen.

The polar bears are already dying due to global warming and exploration by humans. They need HELP- they should not be killed.

The very least you should do is to put a temporary halt on all hunting in order to allow the bears to increase their numbers, if that ever happens. With their habitat in decline however, I don't see a population increase anytime soon. As stewards of this earth, Mr. Hall, we should be ashamed of our treatement of polar bears.

Polar Bears are an endangered species. If you continue to let the "trophies" enter the U.S. then the hunting will not stop! Don't wait until it is too late. We can not afford to lose any other wild animals.

Polar bears are a crucial part of our planet. Please do not even attempt to justify trophy hunting.Use that testosterone for good instead of gratifying some weird need for bragging rights.
