The U.S. is projected to spend over $640 billion on nuclear weapons and related programs over the next ten years. With all of the talk about the need to reduce the budget deficit, nuclear weapons are an obvious place to start. They serve no rational military purpose, yet threaten the world with their capacity to destroy civilization.

Sign the petition to let Congress know that you support cuts to the nuclear weapons budget and applying the savings to:

- Moving forward with dismantling the thousands of deactivated nuclear weapons in the queue for elimination;

- Environmental cleanup of sites contaminated by nuclear weapons production and testing;

- Developing verification methods to support a negotiated treaty to abolish all nuclear weapons; and

- Deficit reduction.
