Leave Space Travel In NASA's Hands, Not Private Companines

The United States Government is considered canceling the space budgets from the Bush Administration. This would cancel the workings of getting back to the Moon by 2020, terminate up to possibly 15,000 jobs at NASA, reduce the influence the United States has in space even though we were the first nation to the Moon, and put the jobs of space travel into that of private companies.

This would be nothing but a disaster for America. The plans, science, and experience needed for space operations comes from NASA. In our present economic condition we cannot stand for any further loss of any number of jobs.

Private companies would view it as a competitive race and would quite possibly overlook overlook safety concerns despite the danger of repeat of the Apollo 13 or Challenger disasters. They also lack the experience, training, and capabilities to do the job in the same fashion as NASA. Finally getting back to the Moon first would prove to those around world doubting that America is still a strong country.

Additionally the Obama Adminstration states that it wishes to cancel the budgets of Space Travel to the moon to save money. But it would cost at least heavily to change to budget and abolish the plans from the Bush Administration. To quote Senator Robert Shelby "Congress cannot and will not sit back and watch the reckless abandonment of sound principles, a proven track record, a steady path to success, and the destruction of our human space flight program." Please sign this petition to your representatives in Congress asking to leave Spacel Travel in the hands of NASA, not those of private companies.

We the undersigned, ask that you please cancel any and all plans to take the mission of Space Travel away from NASA and put in the hands of private companies in every way, shape, or form and leave the plans and budgets from the Bush Adminstration of getting back to the Moon by 2020 alone.
