Protect Reliable and Accessible Care for Kids in California Like Jaimee Jessop

California parents need to be able to rely on high quality care that will protect their children when they need it most.

On a beautiful spring day, Mardee Jessop's 3-year-old daughter Jaimee nearly lost her life, changing their lives forever.

While Mardee prepped for a day at the park with her kids, her daughter Jaimee slipped into the backyard to play — and that's when Mardee heard her son scream. Jaimee had accidentally strangled herself, and one of Mardee's worst fears as a parent came true. Panic set in as doctors and nurses rushed to save her daughter.

Jaimee survived, and the six-weeks spent by her daughter in a hospital bed reinforced Mardee’s belief that reliable, quality care should never be taken for granted: you never know when you will need it.

That's why Mardee joined the Our Health California community — more than 300,000 Californians who are committed to protecting quality care in our state.

It's also why Mardee volunteers at her local hospital, near the bedside of other patients who need comfort and quality care. Doctors and nurses saved her daughter's life, but the kindness of hospital volunteers was a critical part of the care her family received. Now, she wants to do the same for other parents and families.

We may not all be able to volunteer like Mardee, but we can still stand up to protect the quality care that saves lives every day.
