Now Is the Time to Turn Recognition Into Action

Indigenous peoples of Canada were the first to govern this land and were present for thousands of years prior to Confederation. But to this day they have not received recognition for their contributions to building Canada, nor a fair share of the ensuing wealth.

A country cannot be built on an incomplete history.

The idea that Canada was founded exclusively by the British and French is harmful, unfair and incomplete.
Indigenous peoples were here long before both and should be recognized as an equal founding nation.

During this year's Canada 150 activities, we can turn recognition to action. Thanks to funding from the University of Calgary, Recognition2Action is fighting to ensure Indigenous peoples receive the credit they deserve.

Indigenous peoples must be acknowledged as founders of the Nation in a formal, legal way. Only then will there be a solid foundation for Canada to reconcile its past and lay the foundation for a new relationship with its First Peoples.

Sign your name and tell Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to establish Indigenous peoples' status as Founding Nations of Canada by July 1st!
Dear Prime Minister Trudeau,
