Obama: End the Occupation of Iraq

Target: President-Elect Barack Obama
Sponsored by: Peace Action Education Fund
President-Elect Barack Obama pledged to end the occupation of Iraq during his campaign and this should be his number one priority. The occupation of Iraq has cost the US economy hundreds of billions of dollars, lasted longer then World War II, and displaced millions of Iraqis from their homes, while destabilizing the entire region.

Obama will face tremendous challenges early in his administration and feel the pull from hawkish members of his own party and Republicans. He'll need the support of the public to maintain the political will to end the occupation of Iraq, bring our troops home, and resolve the humanitarian crisis.

Sign our open letter to President-Elect Barack Obama to see through his pledge to end the occupation of Iraq.

Dear President-Elect Obama,

Americans are looking to you for a fresh start and an end to the Iraq war as you rebuild our relationships with the global community. A smart investment in a comprehensive strategy can make America safer, and contribute to political stability in Iraq and the region. We call on you to pursue a strategy that includes:

- Withdrawing all troops and private contractors within one year without leaving a vulnerable and provocative residual force

- Creating a "diplomatic surge" that engages Iraq's neighbors (including Iran and Syria) and the international community

It is hard to believe that we are still in war at the twenty first century. I'm sorry, but don't you realize that the WAR IS OVER FOR EVER AND EVER? WE ARE ONE ONLY WORLD. I though you, Mr President, was different to Mr. George Bush. I'm very dissapointed about the way you're developing your goverment. Please listen what people are asking you. In some ways, we could say you are the king of the whole planet; you've got the power of winning the PEACEFUL battle for peace. Please don't waste your precious time in the White House, and be our voice of Freedom and Justice and Peace.

Personally, my husband is a soldier for the United States Army. He has served one tour in Iraq, and is soon to face another pointless tour in Afghanistan. We have lost so many of our men, to pointless violence. This war keeps going on and on, and there is nothing being done to present change. Money is spent for guns and weaponry, innocent Iraqi's and Americans are killed every day in this dragged-out, so called "war on terrorism". Honestly, The Iraq itself as a country, did not attack the United States. Terrorists from Iraq did. There are terrorists who live in our country, that are Americans! Timothy Mcvey, for instance. I was horrified by 911, and yes it was tragic. But, I don't see the point in sending our men over there, and spending billions of American dollars on a war that hasn't solved anything. The only thing that has come of this war, is death, debt, and a everlasting hatred towards Americans. End the war on terrorism.

You know and I do and so many others in our nation that war is a burden to so many, especially when it is an unnecessary one. Please end this war as quickly and safely as possible.

Im a proud veteran of serving in two military branches of the army/marine corps so lets get our troops outta there cause I done two tours over there in the army an one while I was in the marine corps an Ive experienced more there then any other place Ive served in the world an its costing Us more in money an lives of our young men/women.Cause the american people dont want our dead to be as high as Vietnam/Korea/WWII so BRING our troops home weve done our job that Bush got Us into.Besides we should of finished the job back in 1991 then maybe we wouldnt of lost as many as we have now cause also we had more countries backing Us also back then too.Plus theres far more better things for our National Guard & Reserve troops to help back here in the U.S. at that.

We have been in Iraq for far too long and it's time to pull out. It's costing us too many American lives to fight for other countries when America is currently facing ecomomic turmoil.
