Reform Animal Control In North Carolina! Start with Rutherford County! "Stop Senseless Killing!

While I understand that euthanasia is a cruel reality in some cases , I don't understand why Rutherford County Animal Control in North Carolina constantly "kills" our beautiful and highly adoptable animals. This is the same Animal Control that has animal drop boxes. Many of these dogs and cats had Credited Rescues denied and/or neglected adoptions that were ignored and not followed through, their calls were not answered and many times, mistreated. Instead, to their horror, they were told that their would-be pet they fell in love with was put to "sleep". Why??? Again, and again our beloved animals are being slaughtered unnecessarily and with TOTAL IMPUNITY by the staffer in charge who is paid to protect keep our animals safe while they find a home, not to be their "judge" and "executioner". Good hearted volunteers, have to return to the shelter only to find out that some of the dogs and cats that were sweet, friendly, well behaved and full of life (just learning new tricks) have been "euthanized" (and I use the term loosely). As tears of powerlessness flow down their faces…they themselves why? There was no imminent need to kill them and some had been denied rescues...others denied rescue and adoptions.....why???  Restructure a better, safer and more ethical policy and procedures for our animals, sadly, to no avail, killings of adoptable dogs and cats are still taking place.

NC: Rutherford County Animal Control killed this little Terrier, Peanut  for growling at her cell mate because she was scared of him. She was an owner surrender and would have only been $10 to adopt because she was spayed. Peanut didn't even have enough time to be properly advertised for adoption or rescue. Now get this, my friends Marilyn and Jerry Floyd went down to AC to see if they might adopt Peanut and were told she'd already been killed even though her euthanasia date was not until the next day. See her post below. However, Sharon Smith called the Sheriff's office and spoke to Lt. Godlock who told her the Floyds didn't want her because she was mean.

Marily Floyd  went to adopt Peanut at 2:30 on Thursday because he wasn't supposed to be euthanized until the next day . When we got there, they said they had already done it because she couldn't 't get along with the other dogs .................I didn't know that was a life or death requirement !!!! We were stunned!!! This was another needless and senseless killing. That was a 10 month old puppy that was in an unfamiliar place and probably scared to death. It is time to stop this needless killing. This is the reason that we need to reform and train animal control in all counties and in this county and find people to run it that actually care about animals and care about spending the time with them before just killing them for foolish reasons. This is the 2nd dog in the past 2 weeks that has been killed there and had a home to go to. Unnecessary killing of perfectly adoptable pets. There is no reason for that! I am beyond outraged. If you're outraged by this, contact Sheriff Chris Francis's office at 828-287-6247 and our local county commissioners at 828-287-6045 and let them know this is NOT ACCEPTABLE.

We  will keep fighting to give our dogs cats and equine a way out of this situation. Is our silence that adds to this abuse…..and I clearly define "killing" our animals while rescues and adopters want them........as the "HIGHEST" form of abuse. THEY CAN'T DO IT ALONE!! Will you stand up for our animals and sign this petition for change in Animal Control Reform that boast that they have the public interest in mind.….or will it be less uncomfortable to have it remain "as is" entrenched in "its always been done that way" mentality while our animals are killed? It's your call. If you love our animals…..and you want to participate in saving lives…..please sign.

Hopefully, officials that have turned a blind eye to the conditions that our beloved dogs, cats and equine endure at Rutherford County Animal Control will change management and monitor enforcement of shelter policies, procedures and strong arming rescues that are established for the sake of caring for our animals while finding them a caring home. his shelter constantly denies rescue organizations to take dogs and cats and  hinders adoptions only to have them euthanized???   Rarely,  if any, information is posted on their animals.  How can these poor dogs and cats living at RCAC. find a home without their accurate description?   Stories of volunteers treated as burdens shared that many of our potential adopters are being ignored, lied to, and mistreated.  How is this abuse of absolute impunity even possible???  I clearly define "killing" our animals while rescues are denied and adoptions are hindered….as the "highest" form of abuse.  In the name of our animals that have suffered enough, and if you feel you would like them to find a loving home, Please sign this petition.

We all as citizens need to speak up about the way animals are treated in North Carolina and our country. Many adoptable pets are dying needlessly when the can have a loving home.

Update #110 years ago
More innocent animal euthanized at Rutherford County Animal Control. Election for new sheriff soon and not many candidates to choose from. Most of them refuse to talk about animal control change. Would not answer questions in open forum last night. I feel for the animals the need the public to change laws and promote reform.
