For Peace AND for our Troops - A letter to our US Soldiers in Iraq
This petition is a letter to our soldiers who risk their lives to protect the freedoms of the United States. We are pro-peace, AND we support our troops!
We are people for peace, but we are also people who love America and respect our brave military forces who go the extra mile when our country asks for it. Though we do not support the government's decision to risk the lives of our troops, we support and pray for the troops in Iraq. We are protesting because in America, we speak out when we disagree with our government; we remind our government that the American people hold them accountable. We know that this privilege is largely secured by the sweat and blood of our soldiers, and this is one of the reasons we do not want to see their lives risked.
Sign this petition to our soldiers to let them know you care about them, and that's one of the reasons you call for peace.

When you hear that Americans are protesting the war, know that we still support you in Iraq. We want you to be successful, to return home safely, and to do the best job you can do.
If we become mute in the face of those who claim we are "UnAmerican" we will be betraying America and you, our troops. When the United States entered World War I, pro-war, ex-president Roosevelt clearly proclaimed that to silence dissent was to risk losing the very liberties that we fight for.
As Roosevelt said,
"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong,is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."
We feel it is our duty to speak out now in the hopes that it will ensure your safe return. So, in this American tradition, we thank you, our strong and amazing military, for granting us the freedom to have out voices heard.
