Tell Stephen Harper's Conservatives They Can't Make Secret Trade Deals

  • by: NDP

Stephen Harper's Conservatives have drafted text of a sweeping free trade agreement with a dozen other countries, called the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). But they are keeping that document secret from Canadian M.P.s -- even though U.S. lawmakers have access to it.

NDP Trade Critic Don Davies is speaking out against this blatant lack of transparency, and the difficult spot it puts us in as a country. "It is both unfair and unwise for Canadian parliamentarians to operate from such an imbalanced knowledge base in discussions with our U.S. colleagues."

The TPP will have a dramatic effect on our economy and our society -- we all have a right to know exactly what's in it.

Demand that Stephen Harper's Conservatives release the details of the TPP and ensure more transparency in all future trade agreements.
Dear [decision maker],

I am very disappointed by the secrecy surrounding the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Such a sweeping agreement should be properly vetted with the public and certainly with MPs.

The fact that the U.S. Congress has access to this document, but our own MPs don't, is an imbalance that puts our country in a dangerous position. I ask that you release the details of the TPP to MPs and to the public, and please refrain from such a lack of transparency in the future.

Thank you for your time.
