Olive Ridley Turtle Protection

August marks the second slaughter of turtles in two years in Mexico. Please encourage the Mexican government to bring resources to bear to find those responsible and see them prosecuted.
Last year in February, more than 500 endangered turtles were killed with high powered rifles, along San Valentin Beach.
On Escobilla beach in August of this year another slaughter occurred, where in excess of 80, were killed for their eggs,by blows to the head, while the meat was left to rot in the sun.
Because of pressure brought to bear by your government, the hunting of this turtle was halted in 1990. Due to the efforts of yours and other countries, the Olive Ridley turtle has begun to make a comeback.
We ask that you continue in your efforts to curtail and prosecute the poaching of this valuable animal and bring every resource to bear in tracking down those responsible for this outrage.
Mexico is the target of tourists because of the great natural beauty of its land and animals.
We ask and expect that it is your wish to keep both the land and animals from harm, especially those animals which are endangered.
Respectfully,
The undersigned.
