No more deaths! Fix the Highway 50 and 131 intersection in Pittsville!

In the last four years, there have been 22 crashes at the intersection between U.S. Highway 50 and Missouri Highway 131 in Pittsville. 24 people have been injured and two people have been killed.

On March 13th, 15-year-old Shirley Tran became the latest casualty of this dangerous intersection. She was riding in the car with her 20-year-old sister and a friend on Highway 50 when a woman driving with her baby son on Highway 131 pulled out in front of them. Shirley was announced dead on the scene, the baby only had minor injuries, and all of the others were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.

The fault of this accident and all of the others that happen so often here lies not in the drivers, but in the poorly designed intersection. It is confusing, and forces drivers on Highway 131 to pull into high speed traffic on Highway 50. Drivers often misjudge how fast the cars are going, which is how many of the accidents occur.

We cannot wait for more people to be injured or killed before we take action. The Missouri Department of Transportation must make the intersection safer now. Please sign this petition to demand that they reconfigure the intersection so that there is either an overpass or a J-turn.
