Free the Punks! Protect the Punks!

We demand human rights for the punks of Indonesia.

Since 2011 Indonesia has cracked down on punks, particularly in conservative provinces like Aceh where sharia law is in place. Increasingly punks are the only voice of criticsm to increasing conservative politics, speaking out against corruption, repression and for equality and justice in Indonesia. In December 2011 65 punks were arrested in Aceh province Indonesia. They were never charged but were nevertheless taken to a reeducation camp where their clothes were burned, their heads shaved and they were 'morally rehabillitated' by enforced religious practices. In April 2012 a homeless punk couple were publicly caned. Punks in Indonesia continue to be specifically targetted and persecuted by the government and denied their human rights.

We demand that the human rights of Indonesian punks are respected; their rights to Freedom of expression, assembly and association; Freedom from persecution and discrimination and Freedom from unlawful arrest, detention and punishment; Freedom from indignity, cruel and human treatment and freedom from punishment without due process.

Punks in Indonesia are standing up for justice and we demand their rights to Freedom and Equality.
