Stop the Strip Mining of the World's Biggest Wild Salmon Habitat

Bristol Bay is more than just a pristine slice of Alaskan wilderness.

It's the last remaining wild salmon habitat in North America, supporting more than 42% of the world's salmon population. It's home to Alaska Native people — whose traditions and livelihoods depend on the Bay — and to thousands of jobs in tourism and fishing.

Now a foreign mining company wants to build be a massive open-pit mine — the largest in North America — right next to the Bay. The new Pebble Mine would dump pollution straight into the water, putting this unique wildlife sanctuary at risk.

But we can end this threat to Bristol Bay, once and for all. Add your voice by sending a comment to the EPA right now opposing the Pebble Mine.
Dear Gina McCarthy,

I support the EPA's efforts to protect Bristol Bay, Alaska, from the Pebble Mine. Thank you for the review undertaken to create the Bristol Bay Watershed Assessment.

I believe this assessment justified your use of the Clean Water Act 404(c) to stop this project that I believe is not worth threatening 14,000 jobs and multiple industries that depend upon Bristol Bay's clean, healthy waters.

I encourage the EPA to move forward with a Final Determination under Sec. 404(c) of the Clean Water Act in Bristol Bay to finalize restrictions to prevent dangerous development within the Bristol Bay Watershed.

I believe that Pebble is the wrong mine in the wrong place. Your decision to use the Sec 404(c) of the Clean Water Act is justified and necessary to ensure large-scale sulfide mining will not have major adverse impacts on the nation's largest salmon fishery. Please move forward with your effort to protect one of the nation's greatest sustainable resources -- the Bristol Bay, Alaska, salmon fishery.

Sincerely,
