Make Staples Recycle

It is not a well known fact that many Staples stores do not recycle the tons of paper that they produce every day. Please sign the petition and show them that the public cares enough to make some noise!
It has come to my attention that many Staples stores of the United States do not recycle. Specifically, Stores in Northern and Central New Jersey have been phoned by the creator of this petition and asked whether they have recycling facilities. All responses were no.

I would like to see this practice changed and recycling implemented as soon as possible. The importance of recycling is well known, but it must be stated in this petition.

Recycling follows the second law of sustainability: all matter in our ecosystem is cycled (hence the carbon cycle, water cycle, etc.) whereas energy flows. Energy escapes the ecosystem as heat while we receive more energy from the sun (the first law of sustainability), but matter cannot be created or destroyed (the first law of thermodynamics). The molecules of that piece of paper that was just used in a copier was made up of carbon atoms and hydrogen atoms that came from a tree that got its atoms from the ground where many other trees and animals have decayed who got their atoms from eating plants which got their atoms from the ground, and on and on...These atoms have been cycled through many times before. The point is, to maintain an ecosystem, we *cannot* just put garbage into a landfill and forget about it! In order for more paper to be made, the paper we used has to be used again by us, or composted so that other plants can use their atoms. Simple enough?

Staples seems to be ignoring this simple fact of sustainability by not recycling although recycling is available for mixed paper. I find this appaling and need to see recycling programs implemented.

Sincerely,
The Undersigned
