Have you ever wondered about the menopuase drug Premarin (PMU)? What does Premarin stand for? Well, it stands for this: PREgnant MARe urINe. And it's exactly how is sounds. Premarin is made out of pregnant mare urine. What's so wrong with that you ask? Well, for the full scoop, check out www.premarin.org, but here's just a brief summary.

Mares that have been pregnant for about 115-125 days are put on a line where they are forced to wear diapers. They are supposed to be exercised daily, however the money that would need to be spent to exercise the horses is too much for a PMU farmer, so it is rarely done. They like to give the horses little water so that the urine is thinner. This allows them to collect higher levels of estrogen. The farmers get $11 per gallon of PREGNANT MARE URINE! There are 439 of these farms in existence today! And 100,000 horses are currently being tortured on these farms. Most of theses farms are located in Canada, but still there are some in the USA. The mares are kept in stalls only 5 ft. high, 8 ft. long, and 3.5 ft. wide! By regulations, once the mares become overweight or far into their pregnancy, they are supposed to be moved into stalls that are 5 ft. wide, but it is seldom done. The mares are fed excessively. This is said to be done so that when the mares wear down and are no longer able to breed, they are at a good slaughter weight. This also goes for stallions.

A filly born from a PMU farm has a 1 in 10 chance of not going to slaughter. For a colt, their chances are 1 in 50 for not going to slaughter. Between 37,000 and 43,000 foals are killed per year on these farms. Some fillies that are born are kept until they are about 2 years old and then bred and put on the same lines as the mare that bore them. That is why their chances of not getting slaughtered are so much less. Even though, really, a horse should not be bred until they are 3, if not 4 years old. Some PMU farms breed quality horses in attempt to keep them out of slaughter, however this is very few.

Premarin is owned by Wyeth-Ayerst. This company also owns Fort Dodge Animal Health. Fort Dodge Animal Health makes Quest Dewormer as well as many other dog/cat/horse products. Boycott things made by Fort Dodge and Wyeth-Ayerst, to help stop the use of Premarin.

Stop the use of the menopause drug Premarin! This drug uses the urine from pregnant, dehydrated horses and most of the babies are slaughtered if they're born alive!

Furthermore there are alternatives to premarin that are effective and don't cause animal suffering: The drug Cenestin is an all synthetic version of the menopause drug Premarin.

But, what else can I do you ask? Sign the petition below and vowing to boycott premarin use! Tell all your friends, and together we can help stop this abuse!

If you, or anyone you know uses Premarin, let them know what goes on to make this product and ask them to stop. Also, check out www.premarin.org, there, you can download a petition that you can print out and have people sign. There are also addresses on that site that allow you to directly write to Wyeth-Ayerst. Please help stop this cruel punishment that these poor horses go through. Currently, over 10 million women use Premarin. If women stop using premarin, then Wyeth-Ayerst will have to stop using pregnant mare urine to produce it. Thank you!

Stop Premarin and Pregnant Mare Abuse

We the undersigned, pledge to boycott Premarin use until the attrocities that mares are subjected to END FOREVER!
