Tell Congress to Support a Renewable Energy Standard

Target: US House of Representatives
Energy - what we use, where we get it and how we use it - is one of the biggest challenges of this century. How America solves this problem will affect our health and environment, our economic well-being and our security.

We can continue the current, expensive and unsustainable energy practices and policies that have left us addicted to oil, or we can make the changes and take the actions that will put us on the path to a smarter, cheaper and cleaner energy future.

By harnessing renewable sources of energy, we can transform sunlight into energy and capture winds to produce reliable electricity.

Today we have the technology and the know-how to move beyond our dependence on polluting power plants by using clean, safe and affordable renewable energy.

We need Smart Energy Solutions - a bold shift from reliance on fossil fuels and nuclear power to a safe, clean energy future built on efficiency, renewable fuels and innovative technology.

America faces an urgent energy challenge - but there are changes we can make and actions we can take now!
Support Smart Energy Solutions and urge Congress to adopt the Udall-Platts Renewable Energy Standard (H.R. 969)!
deadline: 2-26-2008

Dear [your Congressperson],

Now more than ever, our country needs to invest in clean, renewable energy sources like wind and solar power.

We have the technology today to produce 20 percent of our country's electricity from renewable energy sources by 2020. The Udall-Platts Renewable Energy Standard (H.R. 969) would require utilities to meet this important goal. More than 20 states nationwide have already adopted a Renewable Energy Standard.

This proven policy will help curb global warming, save consumers money, protect our nation's energy security and create thousands of new clean energy jobs. In fact, a new clean energy policy based on wind power, solar power and energy efficiency could create 1.4 million jobs by 2025.

[your comment]

I urge you to sponsor this important legislation. Please support a national Renewable Energy Standard.

Sincerely,
[your name]

Solar, wind, even ocean waves--there are lots of alternatives to providing us clean energy. Oil is a dirty fuel. Nuclear energy has risks. When are we going to start utilizing what works best for the planet instead of which method makes the most profit?

Gas prices and pollution are outrageous. Solutions exist. I'm not talking about on the drawing board but whats actually implementable right now.

I support ZERO EMISSIONS from, for a start residential vehicles. I support this because too much is spent to obtain the other sources of fuel. Too much is spent in money, time, environmentally, and ultimately in lives. This is the moment in the movie when you cast the deciding vote in favor of what is right.

Make the energy bill match what science says is necessary. We need significant and urgent investment in alternative energy now so we can cut CO2 80% by 2050!

It only makes sence! We as a contry has made a slew of bad decisions on a wide variety of things. We have also made great decisions. we have the power to change the world and the time is now! big power companys and oil companys and the "if it does not affect me right now" attitude of the everyday person is a road block that can be overcome. We all no it is the right thing to do so stop @#$#ing around and do it!!!!!

We can make green energy development pay for itself with the development of new technologies, something we're very good at. Hopefully we've learned from the anti pollution scenario where we resisted accepting the need. Let's lead the way and profit from it socially and monetarily.

We can't continue to dam our rivers and pollute the earth and expect to thrive here. Our actions effect eachother and the rest of the life here. Use the options for energy that will sustain life.
