Sign to #FreeYon, a Freedom Activist Kidnapped by the Venezuelan Government!

Venezuela is in the midst of an economic and social crisis. The government's policies have created shortages of food, water, medicine, electricity and beyond, and the regime has become incredibly unpopular. But instead of addressing these issues, the government is cracking down on activists who are working to make things better.

On Aug. 29, Venezuelan secret police kidnapped opposition leader, friend and liberty activist Yon Goicoechea from his car as he left his home.

Yon was the 2008 winner of the Milton Friedman Prize, an award given to an individual who has made a significant contribution to advance human freedom. He advocated non-violence in the promotion of basic freedoms and democracy.

After Yon's kidnapping, Diosdado Cabello, the second most powerful person in the regime, announced the state arrested Yon on bogus charges that he was carrying explosives. In a video, Cabello cited Yon's Friedman Prize award as evidence he is an agent of the U.S. bent on terrorism, which couldn't be further from the truth.

The regime has arrested other opposition leaders and activists, and we are not sure where Yon is being held or under what conditions.

Please sign this petition to urge the Venezuelan government to drop its bogus charges and #FreeYon!
