Establish Presidential War Powers Commission

Target: U.S. House of Representatives
Sponsored by: Mike Capuano for U.S. Senate
We live in a dangerous world, but America must remain a government of laws. The Bush Administration's policies and executive orders went beyond what many of us were legally comfortable with -- and we cannot let this happen again.

That's why it's so important that we pass H.R. 104, which would establish a national commission on presidential war powers and civil liberties. This independent bipartisan commission would have members appointed by the President and by leaders of both parties in the House and Senate to investigate detention, "enhanced interrogation techniques," "ghosting", extraordinary rendition and warrantless electronic surveillance.

The bill needs more cosponsors! Urge your Representative to support legislation to create an independent commission to investigate presidential war powers and civil liberties.

I was mortified by the secret actions take by Dick Cheyney and George Bush. They went way beyond what we are supposed to do in this country. I feel that what they did was wrong, immoral and illegal and want to prevent this from ever happening in the future.

No one should ever be above the law, and we MUST think twice and thrice before starting a war. I don't see us getting out of Iraq for a long, long time! And as for Afganistain, that will go on for years, long after I am dead. We are in a fight now, with Al Quida, but the real battle is between capitalism and ignorance.
