Ask Prime Minister Harper to Invest in Food Safety Now!

We've heard lots of government promises to make our food safer since 20 people were killed by tainted Maple Leaf cold cuts this summer. But nothing has changed.

In fact, government decisions have actually undermined the safety of the food we eat. A leading expert says:

"Because of some decisions to deregulate food inspections... it's fair to say that the government is endangering Canadians' lives three times a day: It's called breakfast, lunch and dinner."

Ottawa has given food companies unprecedented power to police their own safety and sanitation practices.

Now is not the time to risk our safety because of inadequate funding and a misplaced trust that food companies will protect the public interest. We need increased funding for food inspection in order to hire more inspectors and improve inspection.

Act Now! Send a letter to Prime Minister Harper and urge him to increase Canada's food safety funding immediately.
Dear Prime Minister,

I am writing to ask you to please invest in improvements to food safety and inspection.

After 20 people died over the summer from listeriosis food poisoning I'm worried that the food on my family's table could make us sick, or worse.

It's been months since this tragedy occurred and there are been dozens of products recalled from the marketplace in the last several months, but little has been done to improve consumer protection.

Please invest to improve food safety and inspection as soon as possible.
