As one of its last regulatory actions, the Bush administration is moving forward to open some of Colorado's best backcountry to drilling, even though experts say the amount of economically recoverable oil and gas would be just a "drop in the bucket."
On the heels of its decision to lease the Roan Plateau, the administration now is targeting 4.4 million acres of national forests in Colorado by proposing repeal of the popular Roadless Area Conservation Rule that ensures these areas remain "off limits" to industrial development. If successful, new drilling would be allowed, impacting valuable fish and wildlife habitat and giving Colorado's national forests less protection than those around the country.
Your help is needed now! Please sign the letter below now to ask Colorado Governor Bill Ritter to call on the Bush administration to suspend its efforts to open up Colorado's best backcountry to drilling.

I am a conservationist, not an environmental person, and I love the pristine wilderness of Colorado. Once the presently excluded areas are open to drilling and other destructive activity, they will never be free again. Please work to preserve our wilderness areas in their original condition.
Thank you.

As a user of wild lands in Colorado, and a land owner in Pagosa Springs, I believe that any plan to allow more oil and gas development in Colorado is short sited and makes bad long-term economic sense. I spend my time (and money) in Colorado because it is beautiful and relatively undeveloped.

There are too few of these natural habitats left. Most politicians think too much about the potential profit that they can make in big oil, and don't take the time to consider the damage it does to wildlife. Not everyone in this world is consumed with greed. Not everyone wants more and more and more money. Some of us actually *enjoy* the peace and quiet that a mountain spring or winter storm in the rockies can bring. Stop the drilling. Stop killing our world.

From recent headlines, a man was killed in the past week missusing his 4 X 4 on dirt roads. Do you want the insurance risk of more idiots driving their 4 x 4S on more roads??

The destruction this would cause is in no way worth the small amount of resources which might be recovered. The citizens of Colorado and the rest of the US need real energy solutions.
