Help stop toxic herbicide use in the Shawnee National Forest.

THE SHAWNEE NATIONAL FOREST PLANS ON SPRAYING SYNTHETIC POISONS ACROSS THE FOREST- INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO; ALL STREAM CORRIDORS, ALL TRAILS, ALL ROADS, AND IN NATURAL AREAS.

In 2006 the Shawnee National Forest revised their forest plan under then president George W. Bush. This plan calls for heavy handed industrial management of the forest, not just logging, but for other activities, such as for "exotic plant species control." The plan's preferred method of exotic plant species control is using herbicides.

Recently, the Shawnee Forest Service issued a decision to spray thousands of acres of the Shawnee, all across the forest, with toxic herbicide chemicals.  These chemicals are dangerous to humans and wildlife. The effectiveness of these chemicals in "controlling" exotic plant species is unproven and highly questionable.  The only true beneficiary of this policy is chemical companies such as Monsanto, who are selling their herbicides to the government.

This policy was adopted during the development of the 2006 Shawnee plan revision.  This plan revision is based on science that was concocted during secret meetings between the Forest Service and handpicked "scientists" and outside agency personnel.  A federal judge in Washington D.C. has ruled that these meetings did not comply with the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA) and should have been open to the public.  Yet the Shawnee F.S. says that they will not change their plans and open up their planning process in a legal and transparent way.  We need to tell the U.S. Forest Service and our political leaders that we don't want toxic herbicide chemicals put on our National Forest without proper representation.

PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION TO KEEP TOXIC HERBICIDES OUT OF OUR ENVIRONMENT AND STOP THE FOREST SERVICE FROM USING HEAVY HANDED INDUSTRIAL MANAGEMENT IN THE SHAWNEE NATIONAL FOREST.  THANK YOU FOR HELPING!
We, the undersigned, oppose the plans of the Shawnee National Forest to use herbicides and fire in natural areas and across the forest to control "exotic" plant species.  The Shawnee N.F. should reopen their overall management plan which emphasizes the use of herbicides and fire.  This plan was developed in secret meetings which a federal court in Washington D.C. ruled should have been open to the public.
