Stop the Environmental Destruction of Artificial Snow

Want to go skiing in a sewage treatment facility?

Climate change has warmed the earth so that it no longer snows as many weeks of the year as it used to. This means a limited season for ski resorts, who have turned to artificial snow to extend the season. This winter, the ski resort Arizona Snowbowl will use 100% treated sewage water to create artificial snow.

Many ski areas in the United States, including luxury resorts like Vail, Aspen and Lake Tahoe, are located on public land. This means that the US Forest Service can require comprehensive testing for the water used to create artificial snow.

Tell the US Forest Service to demand much more comprehensive testing for the water used to create artificial snow.

The water used to provide snow for rich people to go on a skiing vacation will eventually enter the water supply we all use. Demand that this water be subject to comprehensive testing to reduce environmental damage.
As the agency responsible for protecting America's forests, I am writing to ask you to demand much more comprehensive testing and higher standards for the water used to create artificial snow.

I strongly believe that this water should be tested for endochrine-disrupting chemicals, or EDCs, as they are unstable chemical compounds that could react to freezing and thawing.

This water should also be required to meet the quality standards for drinking water, because it will clearly come into contact with people's mouths, skin and clothing.

Your attention to this matter now could prevent great environmental damage in the future.
