Honor Black History Month

It's Black History Month, a time to honor, recognize and celebrate the African American experience and how it has shaped our nation. And with your help, there soon will be a Smithsonian museum on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., that strives to meet this goal all year long.

The National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) is the first national museum devoted to African American history and culture. The NMAAHC is the Smithsonian's newest museum and is scheduled to open in the nation's capital next year. Dedicated individuals from across the country have been working diligently to ensure the construction of the museum and collect the historic objects and stories that will make it a special place of meaning, memory, hope, reflection and reconciliation for all Americans.

Please take a moment to show your support for this important museum.

As the nation celebrates Black History month, I'm proud to pledge my support for the National Museum of African American History and Culture and announce my commitment to ensuring this important museum opens its doors in 2016. I believe that African American history is America's history and that every American will benefit from a deeper knowledge of the African American experience.
