Restore Bison to Their Native Habitat

More than 30 million wild bison once roamed America's grasslands. Sadly today, fewer than 5,000 wild bison roam their native habitats in the United States, most of which are confined to Yellowstone National Park.

In order for this majestic species to recover fully, we must establish new, wild bison herds on other suitable native habitats on the Great Plains. We've set the stage for large-scale restoration of wild bison in a vast expanse of north-central Montana by securing large swaths of land for bison, but they still need your help.

Wild bison deserve to return to their native grasslands, but it won't happen without the voices of wildlife champions like you. A vocal minority of people in Montana are dead-set against restoring bison — which is why we need your voice. Urge Governor Bullock to stand up for bison, and ensure that they are restored to their native lands.

Take Action! Send a message to the governor of Montana urging him to move forward on restoring wild bison to their native habitat without delay.
Dear Governor Bullock,

Thank you for encouraging and supporting Montana’s exploration of bison-restoration opportunities. Your leadership, including vetoing anti-bison legislation, is greatly appreciated.

Now it is time to move forward. It time to move beyond whether to restore bison and time to focus on where and how to do it.

Montana is a national leader in wildlife restoration and management. Montana can restore and manage bison every bit as successfully as it has its elk, deer and all the other native wildlife. I know bison, like all wildlife, presents certain challenges. But they are challenges I know Montana can meet with your leadership.
