Tell the U.S. Government to Help Expand Access to Clean, Safe Water & Sanitation

For people in the United States, flushing a toilet and turning on a faucet to get clean drinking water can be taken for granted. But this is not the case for more than 650 million people in the world today.

Millions of people throughout the world do not have access to clean water, and billions do not have access to a safe, private toilet. Whether you live in the United States, or are a child growing up in rural India, or a young woman giving birth in Mali, the lack of access to safe toilets and basic hygiene can have devastating consequences, such as debilitating disease and even death.

This past September, the United Nations (UN) adopted new Global Goals on sustainable development. The entire world has come together to agree on goals that will create a fairer, more sustainable world.

Goal 6 promises to reach everyone everywhere with clean water, safe toilets and hygiene by 2030. To get there we need determination and commitment from all UN member governments – including the United States.

The United States plays a crucial role and we must hold our government accountable to the promise it made by adopting the new Global Goals. We need to make sure that these Goals have a serious impact and bring about change.

Tell the U.S. Government to ensure Goal 6 is prioritized in its plans to meet the Global Goals. Whether at home or abroad, we cannot meet goals to improve health, nutrition, or education and gender equality without safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene.
