Dog beaten, dragged, left for dead

On October 11th, in the town of Didsbury Alberta, a couple out for a walk found a female collie-lab cross lying in the street. The dog's injuries were so severe, the veterinarian called to the scene had to euthanize the animal on the spot. The dog's legs were bound together with duct tape, and its head was wrapped in a bag. There was a tow rope around the dog's neck. The dog's neck, pelvis, back and skull were fractured. Investigators believe that the six or seven year old dog had been beaten prior to being tied up and hitched to a vehicle, then dragged for blocks. There was no apparent motive to the crime.
Daniel Charles Haskett, 19, of Didsbury Alberta has been charged under the Criminal Code with injuring/endangering an animal and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal. His 17 old accomplice, whose identity is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with the same offences.

Let's make it clear to Mr. Morris Airey, Director of Enforcement of the Alberta SPCA, who is also investigating the case, that this behaviour is abhorrent, and that further charges need to be laid. Let's let him know how we feel, and that we are behind further charges being laid.
Let us be heard! We need to provide a voice for the animals who have none.
