The Canadian government signed a $14.8 billion deal to trade Light Armoured Vehicles to Saudi Arabia - one of the worst human rights violators. With the new Liberal government we have an opportunity to stop the funding of violent and militaristic regimes that promote and foster terror.

Background:
The $14.8 billion contract was brokered in 2013-2014 by the Harper government for an undisclosed amount of light armoured vehicles (LAVs). According to Open Canada, Saudi LAVs have been confirmed to have been used against civilians in the conflict in Bahrain. Despite this evidence, Prime Minister Trudeau insists that these are not arms but "Jeeps" and currently fully backs the deal.
Saudi Arabia has one of the worst human rights records in the world with horrible records in women's rights, freedom of speech and treatment of migrant workers. It is also leading military action in Yemen which has cost thousands of lives, many of them attributed to Saudi Arabia.
Justin Trudeau has stated that he wants to change the international perception of Canada. By backing a militaristic regime with a horrible human rights record he is funding further violence and perpetuating the poor image of Canada on the global stage.

As a person greatly concerned with peace, I ask that you cancel the $14.8 billion deal with Saudi Arabia for Light Armoured Vehicles (LAVs). I believe that Canada should not be trading with a Saudi Arabia and that the LAVs will be used to cause more terror and violence in the region. LAVs have been confirmed to have been used in violent actions against civilians already.
Canada has an opportunity to take a very different role on the global stage, one of peacekeeping and this arms deal only smears Canada's name in the International community.
