End So-Called "Pre-Existing Conditions!"

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: SEIU
The insurance industry regularly refuses coverage to people with so-called "pre-existing conditions." Recently we've started to learn just what, exactly, qualifies as a "pre-existing condition," and the facts are startling.

In eight states and Washington, D.C., insurance companies are able to deny coverage to victims of domestic violence, claiming it as a "pre-existing condition." Insurance companies have also denied women coverage due to previous pregnancies and c-sections. And one insurance company is even telling healthy clients that they must be sterilized if they want to receive coverage! (Listen to Peggy tell her nightmare story here.)

It makes you wonder, where do these guys draw the line? What is NOT considered a "pre-existing condition"?

We're on the verge of passing sweeping health insurance reform that would end this practice once and for all. Tell Congress that health insurance reform must happen now. We can't afford to wait!

Dear [Decision Maker],

I am writing you today to express my support for a health insurance reform bill that forbids insurance companies from discriminating based on "pre-existing conditions."

Today, insurance companies are denying women coverage due to previous pregnancies and c-sections. And in eight states and Washington, D.C., insurance companies are able to deny coverage to victims of domestic violence, claiming it as a "pre-existing condition."

[Your comments inserted here]

No one should be denied health care coverage, least of all people who have already endured so much. I ask that you pass health insurance reform that protects all Americans from the arbitrary practice of denying coverage based on "pre-existing conditions."

Thank you for your time and attention to this important matter.

Sincerely,

With the disloyalty of Employers today, it is not fair for Health Insurance Companies to impose pre-existing conditions to insureds.

Those with pre-existing conditions are the people who most need affordable health insurance coverage and need the most help to get by. Affordable health coverage should be available to all people; to deny it to anyone would be discrimination, plain and simple. As far as I'm concerned, denying a person health coverage due to a pre-existing condition should be illegal under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
