Stop Pakistani Children from Being Tortured in Seminary Schools

Pakistani police have found children chained up, beaten, and tortured in a boarding school in Karachi, Pakistan.

It is estimated that there are many institutions like this one. They are often advertised as seminary schools that aim to help children overcome drug addictions under religious regimen and instruction. Parents unknowingly pay these schools to treat their troubled children.

There are little to no state help for drug addicts in Pakistan, leaving few alternatives to such institutions. They also seem like an attractive option to many poor families because they promise free or cheap education, food, and lodging.

We must end the torture of Pakistani schoolchildren. Sign the petition to push for the government of Pakistan to offer and fund safe schools, rehab, and aid for children to help make better lives, not worse.

Urge the Pakistani government to shut down these horrible institutions and promote the safety of Pakistani children and recovering drug addicts.
His Excellency Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani, and His Excellency President Asif Ali Zardari,

I am writing to express my concern for the welfare of drug-addicted Pakistani citizens, and especially that of the drug-addicted children seeking rehabilitation.

There are little to no state help for drug addicts in Pakistan, and we urge you to change that. These institutions exist because there are few alternatives for families of drug-addicted and troubled children.

I urge you make an effort to offer safe schools, rehabilitation, and aid for recovering drug addicts to help them make better lives, not worse.

By providing safer options for Pakistani citizens, you can help shut down these institutions and end the torture of millions.

Sincerely,
