From the determined and courageous Amelia Earhart to the passionate and free-thinking Barbara Jordan, women have been trailblazing with grace and spirit for centuries in order to create a better and safer country for everyone.
But many women struggle every day against odds that are stacked against them. Approximately 1.3 million women are physically assaulted by an intimate partner each year in the United States. And in Texas, two women are killed by their intimate partners each week.
In recognition of Mother's Day, we believe that honoring the women in our lives will lead to healthier families and communities. Do you know women in your life who have the same outstanding qualities and characteristics as Amelia Earhart, Rosa Parks, Lady Bird Johnson and Barbara Jordan?
Like the pioneering women who have come before them, women who have been victims of domestic violence find the strength and resilience to overcome obstacles to change their lives. Join us in honoring the women in your life and stand with the women who are trying to overcome domestic violence in their lives.

Arya Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, known as Kuan Yin is the bodhisattva who most embodies compassion. The name Avalokitesvara has its root meaning as "he who observes the sounds of the world". The great vow of Avalokitesvara is to listen to the supplications, and cries for help from those in difficulty in the world and to provide them with aid, whatever expedient means are needed to help people most effectively.
Kuan Yin Bodhisattva, an emanation of Amida Buddha's compassion, is the "Regarder of the Cries of the World". Sometimes referred to in the West as the Goddess of Mercy. Prayers for help arise from thousands of hearts, and thousands of prayers are answered by her vow of eternal compassion: Beings in Samsara, who sail the ocean of suffering, She will guide and deliver safely to the ultimate shore of enlightenment

I was in an abusive relationship, and with encouragement, love and support from many women in my life, I was able to get out. These women are, courageous, generous, and strong.

My mother lived her faith as well as kindness, caring, consideration, loyalty, unlimited support for her children and others unknown to her personally. She was an excellent teacher, even without a college education.
She insisted that I be a participant in Girl Scouts, my church youth group and a service club in high school (the only outlets that my father would accept).
She silently suffered from a very domineering husband who didn't recognize her lifelong learning and experiences unless they met his standards and level of schooling. She had siblings and understood children's wants and needs. He was an only child, who was tied to his parents and helped to support them from age 10 on, without being able to be a kid himself. I assume he never got a chance to learn how to have a personal equal, only a professional one.
My mom did her best and trusted in God for what she couldn't provide herself. Her strong faith and personal values have taught me too many things to name individually or count.
So far, I am enjoying a 40+ year marriage that I wouldn't have but for her loving example of compromise and carrying on no matter what the circumstances. I miss her.
My mom passed when I was only 21 and newly married, yet what she was able to teach me, I am passing along to my children and grandchildren, too. She didn't live long enough to see her grandchildren or get to meet and enjoy her great-grandchildren.

Women in my life are Strong, assertive, and true believer in their capability and real fighters for their rights. Without them my life would be empty and meaningless.

I am striving to overcome the pain and scars of domestic violence. More women need to realize that this is not their fault and get out, it will be better for yourself and your children. My family has been instrumental in my recovery and I thank God for them daily.
