Meet Your Meat: End Factory Farming Today!

Target: US House of Representatives
Sponsored by: PETA
Have you met your meat? Most people eat meat with the luxury of not having to see the horrors of how the animals are raised and slaughtered. These practices are not only cruel, they are dangerous to our health as well, as unhealthy animals produce unhealthy meat.

In factory farms, chickens, pigs, cows and other animals are treated like commodities, despite their intelligence and personality. Chickens, who form strong emotional bonds with their families, have their sensitive beaks sawed off with a burning hot blade and are confined to battery cages where they can't even lift a wing.

Pigs, who are considered smarter than 3-year-old children, are forcibly impregnated and confined to filthy metal crates so small they can't even turn around or lie down. Cows, who are gentle giants who are visibly distressed when separated from their calves, are subjected to castration, branding and de-horning - all without anesthesia.

These cruelties are just the beginning of the horrors of factory farming. Sign this petition today to tell Congress that factory farming must be stopped!

Dear Member of Congress,

I am writing to you today to express my deep concern for the welfare of animals raised and slaughtered in factory farms. Pigs, cows, chickens and other animals who have all been proven to be intelligent and emotional animals, are often kept in disgusting and cramped conditions, and subjected to painful and degrading procedures:

- Chickens have their sensitive beaks sawed off with a burning hot blade and are confined to tiny crates where they can't even raise a wing,
- Pigs are forcibly impregnated and confined to filthy, metal crates so small that they can't turn around or lie down comfortably, and
- Cows are subjected to agonizing procedures like castration, branding and de-horning -- all without anesthesia.

These horrors are just the beginning. The heavy use of antibiotics is putting us all at risk, and the amount of pollution that these factory farms generate accounts for more global warming pollution than the transportation industry!

We signed the “Meet Your Meat: End Factory Farming Today!” petition!

This is not what nature intended that we massacre and treat our animals in such horrid way. We need as the human race to show more care of animal specie. We become more selfish and conceited that we erroneusly believed that we are the only ones on this planet.Well when animals cease to exist than we follow suit. We need animals more they need us. And yet we are more cruel and inconsiderate of their welfare. This has to stop - this exploitation of the utter shame and disregard for our treasures - our beautiful animals.

There are many bills in the House this year dealing with factory farming. I strongly urge you to support those bills that benefit the animals, who have been tortured and degraded long enough. I think that it is really crazy how a human can torture animals like that, i mean that act as if the animals dont have hearts and brains, the animals are already going to be killed atleast let them live there life in joy before they go,its also not safe to put all those chemicals into the animals and them sale the meat on the market, i have not been getting sick since i stopped eating meat, i just really hope that we can do something bout this and just make people haft to natural farm.

The idea of factory farming itself is inhumane even without mention of all the cruelties these poor animals are subject to.

Factory farming is inhumane. It has been said that a society will be judged by how it treats the least among them. What then, does factory farming say about us? It says we value the dollar above all else, above compassion for those that have no voice. I am a Christian. Most of this great nation also professes to be Christian. Proverbs says "A wise man careth for his animals." How then can Christian farmes and members of Congress justify the cruelty our farm animals face? It can't be done.

There are so many implications regarding environmental impacts, inhumane treatment of animals, and health risks associated. Imagine living your entire life in a cage unable to move around. You wouldn't let you dog live like that, why should a pig be subjected to that?

This is unnecessary. I have the means to pay for cruelty free meat, however I'm unable to find it. I'm very concerned that I have no options in this arena.

i have been a strict vegitarian for four years and i recetly did a report on factory farming i so repulsed and overcome by saddness that i promply decided i wanted to not only be a veitanrian but do anything i can for the poor animals that deserve the same treatment as us and do not recive it. i cant imagine what kind of person puts animals in these conditions and sleeps well in there beds at night. just becuase they cant speak our language doesnt mean that they dont feel pain like us. if that could speak our language what would they say to us? if you were one of them in such unimagineable conditions what would you say? what if what ever you said couldnt be heard? what then? animals feel just as we do. the olnly difference is that people just dont listen when animals express pain. please. for the animals sakes. end the pain.

This has to stop. It is ridiculous and it is making this country one of the sickest in the world if not the sickest! Organic pasture farming is much more cost effective and gives a much higher quality product- because the animals are eating what they should and are not under daily psychological stress.

For the numerous reasons stated in the official letter, and for more - these helpless animals, who are all God's creatures, deserve humane treatment, at the very least. Whether we eat meat or not, Americans want and require humane treatment for all animals - no exceptions - no excuses. We want morality and decency. Thank You

animals feel pain just like us humans. farmanimals are gentle, did you ever watched them with their offspring? i choose not to eat meat anymore. that will not change anything exept for the fact, that maybe i can save a few animals over my lifetime.

it be littles the human race to put animals at these painful tortures. I also think heavy antibotic use is not good to pass thru our food chains tortured meat that is stressed is not good to eat eighter.I can not stand to think about the greed that causes humans to do this to animals

The practices are horrific and well hidden from the general public in a conscious way. Factory farm owners know their industry is a disaster for animals, local environments, nearby bodies of water and workers alike. It is completely unethical for a society to slaughter other conscious being for food when we have other options anyway but when we take over their lives as well and prevent them from experiencing the absolute basics of freedom to run and nest and enjoy each others company in a natural way its absolutely sickening. FACTORY FARMING IS SICKENING. End it now for the sake of the animals, the lakes and rivers, the local residents and the welfare of thye workers. BAN THIS BARBARIC INDUSTRY TODAY!!!

No living thing should ever have to endure the miseries inflicted on farm animals. There are places in the world where livestock are treated humanely and nothing is lost for the people raising them. And for the really selfish side of humanity, every tiem we eat meat we're ingesting every hormone, antibiotic, and poison we feed our food. On top of that, there are still chemicals released from the stress the animals went through, chemicals our bodies can read and absorb. If the fact that it's inhumane to the animals isn't enough, then the fact that it's terrible for the people should be. I personally couldn't stand harming something the way most factory farms do.

Americans deserve real, healthy food, and clearly recognizable food options that come from smaller, healthier farms. Even though the cost of such meat will necessarily be greater, we must not close our eyes to the terrible quality of the meat that we consume. The option for healthy meat beyond "lean/fat" content labels should be there.
