We all know that women get paid less than men, and on April 23, the Senate made it even harder for women to fight for their fair share.
The Senate failed to pass the Fair Pay Act and as a result failed to restore civil rights protections gutted by the Roberts Supreme Court in a case called Ledbetter v Goodyear. With the defeat of the bill, it is now extremely difficult for workers to sue for pay discrimination. The outcome also enables employers to benefit from concealing wage disparities.
Even worse, the effects of Ledbetter v Goodyear continue to spread. In the year since the decision, it was cited in 258 cases, including in the powerful federal courts of appeals in 12 of 13 circuits.
The Senate had a chance to right the Supreme Court's wrong, but they failed and thereby hindered the fight for fair pay. We need to undo the damage done by the Ledbetter case -- protest the Senate's failure to pass the Fair Pay Act! A parallel bill passed in the house so only the Senate is halting the progress of women and other groups who experience discrimination to fight for their fair share. A way to address equal pay for equal work and the consequences of the Supreme Court's decision in Ledbetter must be found!

This is completely ridiculous! I am furious and dumbfounded that the Senate would not pass the Fair Pay Act. This obvious discrimination is outrageous and unbelievable. Work is not determined by your gender but how hard you work. Lilly Ledbetter deserved to be paid what she earned! She worked there for almost twenty years and still was not paid nearly what her inexperienced male coworkers were paid! Give me a break! This is absolutely ludicrous and I recommend that the senate take another look at the bill and pass it! EQUAL WORK, EQUAL PAY!

i am a girl. they tell me i can be anything i want to be. they didn't tell me that i had the right to make less even though i work as hard. because that seems to be the message the Supreme Court has for us women. The thing that is really sadly amazing here is that we KNOW that the all-fired grand Founding Fathers did not specifically say that we should be paid equally any more than they said that black people should get hired or gay people can marry. But we KNOW that we are also the Founding Fathers and Mothers and Sisters and Brothers that might have to actually spell these things out. Or are we not created equal? Should I have to tell my nieces and goddaughters that?

Women have to work a double - sometimes triple - shift, caring for their children as well as their parents, and often their in-laws as well as men. Single women also care for and work harder than males. For all of these reasons, women should be paid slightly More than men, who have ceased being the steopical breadwinners.

Work should be compensated by your performance not gender or race or age etc. Women are just as smart and hard working. So yes we derserve to get paid the same as any man.

It's time to act like fair and ethical people with all issues, not just the hot topics. Let's work to get rid of sizism, racism, sexism, racism, ageism and all the rest of the "isms" that hurt us all. The fairer we become the less liklihood for micro and macro conflicts.
Thank-you.

Not every female is supported by a full time working male. This is an unbalance of power. We need to put a stop to it. Equal pay has already been mandated in other civil societies in Europe.
