Stop the Proposal to Build a Casino in Gettysburg!

As the premier classroom on the Civil War, Gettysburg allows visitors to learn about a time in history that shaped who we are today. For this reason, it is protected as a national park -- allowing visitors to honor the sacrifices made there and show respect for the devastating and defining battle.

Unfortunately, this unique and compelling piece of our nation's history is currently threatened by a proposal to build a gambling casino within one half mile of the park.

A casino so close to this hallowed ground is at odds with the very nature of this place and with its proven economic engine -- heritage tourism. Gettysburg National Military Park belongs to all of us and we must protect it from this development.

Urge the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to protect this historic place by denying the Gettysburg casino application.
Dear Chairman Fajt,

I urge you to protect the future of Gettysburg National Military Park by denying the Mason-Dixon Resort & Casino application.

Gettysburg is an authentic, family-friendly town that allows children and adults to learn about a time in our history that shaped
who we are today. Whether walking through the town or standing on the battlefield, visitors get a glimpse of what life was like
during the battle at Gettysburg. A casino is at odds with this atmosphere and with the sacred nature of the land on which so
many gave their lives.

In addition, Gettysburg National Military Park already is a strong economic engine for the area. In 2008, park visitors spent more than $91 million at local businesses and supported 2,307 local jobs. The combination of Civil War preservation and the family-friendly nature of Adams County have created a proven, winning formula for the park and its neighboring communities.

Please protect this sacred land by voting no to gambling in Gettysburg.

Thank you for considering my request.
