Ensure New Global Warming Act Remains Strong

Target: U.S. House of Representatives
Sponsored by: Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee
Democratic Representatives Henry Waxman and Ed Markey have just introduced the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 into Congress. The act is comprehensive energy legislation that, if passed, will create millions of new clean energy jobs, save consumers hundreds of billions of dollars in energy costs, enhance America's energy independence and cut global warming pollution.

The discussion draft of the bill sets a nationwide standard for renewable electricity production, establishes a federal low carbon fuel standard and calls for a 20 percent cut in overall emissions from 2005 levels by 2020, among other things.

Sign on to support the Democrats' efforts to tackle global warming! Urge your Representative to ensure that the strictest energy standards are maintained throughout the House discussion of the bill!

Dear Representative,

I was excited to hear of the recently introduced American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, and I am thrilled to see Congress tackle comprehensive energy legislation that will create millions of new clean energy jobs, save consumers hundreds of billions of dollars in energy costs, enhance America's energy independence and cut global warming pollution.

Legislation like this is critical in addressing the growing problem of global warming. I care deeply about our planet and its inhabitants, which is why I urge you to ensure that the strictest energy standards are maintained throughout the House discussion of the bill.

I would also like to add that I believe that recycling should be made mandatory in every State. It should be a federal law. This would certainly create thousands of jobs and save land, trees, water, electricity and many resources. It's mandatory in many Northeastern states and in California, etc., it should be everywhere!! I also believe that cap and trade and an energy tax needs to be passed!! If Americans have to pay more for what they consume, and polluters have to pay for the devastation and threats they pose to our health and environment, then SO BE IT!!!!! That's the LEAST that we can do since we consume over 30% of the world's resources and other countries are suffering SO horribly from drought, land loss and other consequences of climate change! People are DYING and we are now seeing refugees from islands sinking due to the rise in our oceans!!! Americans need to WAKE UP!! Realize their impact and responsibility and "sacrifice" for the good of the WHOLE human race!!! It makes me angry that the debate goes on and on and on!! STOP debating, START DOING SOMETHING!! We cannot continue our arrogant, wasteful, complacent and "wimpy" mindset any longer!! What we have to "sacrifice" is NOTHING compared to what millions of other people have to endure!! If we don't, then we will most likely experience more hardship ourselves! Just because this is America doesn't mean we wouldn't become a third world country when it comes to water supply, food supply, clean air, land, etc.!!!!!!! We cannot and should not continue to drill and mine for our energy needs! Mountaintop mining needs to be BANNED before we destroy the Appalachian Mountains and more people die from cancers, etc., etc.!! It makes NO sense to me to continue to use such destructive, toxic means of energy when we have the sun and the wind and geothermal, biomass that is renewable, clean and abundant! It touches us EVERYDAY!!!!!!!! We don't have to try to find it!!!

This act is not only for us. It is for our Children, and and the future Generations. Look at all the Earth has brought for us, including this little thing called 'life'. The least we could do is help her, and make a Turn around in any way possible. Remember, this is our HOME.
