Help Save America's Fisheries

Target: Acting Assistant Administrator of Fisheries Dr. James Balsiger
Sponsored by: Environmental Defense Fund
We can reverse the economic and environmental disaster of overfishing.

That's the encouraging conclusion of Oceans of Abundance, a new report by two dozen scientific, economic, political and environmental leaders. By widely deploying a fisheries management program called "catch shares," we can make fish more abundant and fisheries more profitable - for generations to come.

You can support this vision for better fishery management. Send an email today: Urge the National Marine Fisheries Service to adopt the recommendations from the Oceans of Abundance report.

Dear Dr. Balsiger,

The world's fisheries are in serious trouble. Most have declined precipitously for decades, and U.S. fisheries have fared little better. Barely one quarter of our fisheries are known to be sustainable. Thousands of fishermen have lost their jobs.

The good news is that new science points the way to recovery. Science-based catch shares have been proven to make fish more abundant and fisheries more profitable.

I urge President Obama and Congress to unleash economic and ecosystem renewal in the oceans by following the recommendations of the bipartisan Oceans of Abundance working group.

Stop eating fish. Stop eating all animal products. Go vegan. Problem solved. Fishermen can find jobs making soy fish replacements. Let the fish be eaten by the natural predators above them on the food chain. Let nature do it's thing. Stop making profits based on barbarianism.
