Photo of signs

Downtown Richmond, Indiana welcomes visitors and locals with repeated signs on Main Street which read:
"NO DOGS BIKES SKATES SKATEBOARDING".

These signs mislead. Bicycles are allowed on the streets downtown. It is not necessary to post that bicycles cannot ride on sidewalks for that law to be enforcable.

The signs are counter to our comprehensive plans which instructs us to promote human-powered transportation. The signs are counter to our Wayne County motto "We Say Yes!". The signs are counter to a warm, welcoming downtown.

We, the undersigned, believe the NO signs need to GO.

63 9:39 am PDT, May 5   Travis Hunt While visiting Richmond on a road trip with my family we found the signs to be discouraging and unwelcoming. we had a little silky terrior with us and a use to carry him every where we go, as he ride in my wife purse. We were told that "NO, means No" so we never really saw the town and just decided to leave and shop and eat else where. On our three month road trip to see the heartland this was the first time that we felt unwelcome and was treated very rude by the locals. We place a traveler beware of this town when we got back home to Beverly Hills, CA It was very upsetting, becuase it did look like a nice town that could have had some nice antique stores. We are in the business and every three years we travel the US look for antiques and local peices of art to comisson and then ship the all back to Los Angeles. But, Richmond did not recieve any of our money nor will they of any of our friends. TRAVELER BEWARE OF RICHMOND, IN Sincerely, Travis Hunt Beverly Hills, CA

55 8:20 pm PDT, Sep 13   David Webb
54 7:14 pm PDT, Sep 13   Harrison Wills These signs are not welcoming and or inviting. A smart community would want to promote Bicycle Awareness and Create Safe routes for Bikes. I believe we can make a difference,

51 12:23 pm PDT, Apr 3 Mr. Roman Soiko What we need is coherency and not more ambiguity, there is too much of the latter unfortuantly, and come on, be honest it's own citizens who ultimately have to face an inevitable enviromental mess because of bureaucratic red tape.
50 9:10 am PDT, Mar 26 Mr. Jon Flory Schrock I think we should do everything to make people feel welcome to the downtown area. And encouraging cyclists' presence not only allows their being there but also encourages how people might get there.

10 9:01 am PDT, Sep 11   Anna lisa Gross I'm excited about the good work going on to invigorate uptown Richmond but these signs are unwelcoming and uptight.
9 7:15 am PDT, Sep 11 Mr. Phil Dickman Any signage should promote a positive aspect such as... please ride your bicycle in a safe and courteous manner.

4 7:44 pm PDT, Sep 9 Mr. Travis Poling Signs reminding us of what is forbidden does not help draw people to any area. To have a viable downtown, I believe the atmosphere must be as welcoming as possible.
