The Senate's version of the climate bill is out -- and it strengthens part of the House's bill. Introduced by Senators John Kerry and Barbara Boxer, the Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act puts us on the right track to addressing climate change.
The Boxer-Kerry climate bill strengthens several provisions of the House bill, including:
* raising the 2020 target for greenhouse pollution reductions to 20 percent below 2005 levels.
* ensuring that revenues from carbon regulation goes to transit, bike paths and other green modes of transportation.
* giving the EPA the authority to regulate coal plants under the Clean Air Act.
As the bill is debated in committee, we need to make it even stronger! Tell your senators: Push for and pass a strong climate bill!
Dear Senator,
I'm writing to urge you to support strong provisions in the newly introduced Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act. This piece of comprehensive climate legislation was introduced by Senators John Kerry and Barbara Boxer, and I believe it has strengthened the House's version in a number of key ways.
In particular, I was thrilled to see that it:
--raises the 2020 target for greenhouse pollution reductions to 20 percent below 2005 levels, instead of 17 percent.
--pushes for green transportation by ensuring that revenues from carbon regulation goes to transit, bike paths and other green modes of transportation.
--gives the EPA the authority to regulate coal plants under the Clean Air Act.
As this bill gets debated in committee and on the Senate floor, please ensure these strong provisions remain -- and more are added! We must pass strong climate legislation this year.
