Stop the Cruel Slaughtering of Lambs for Easter in Italy!

Every year, more than 4 million sheep, goats, and lambs are slaughtered in Italy to celebrate the Easter holidays. But it's not just that these animals are killed for Easter supper. They're often treated in horrifying, inhumane ways before facing agonizing, terrifying deaths.

This year, animal rights organizations caught the horrible circumstances of many of these animals' deaths on camera. Farm managers were recorded grabbing the baby sheep by the neck, dragging them to the floor and tossing them into trucks.

In the slaughterhouses themselves, conditions were even worse: the lambs waited to die in tightly packed pens, screaming in agony as they were trampled by other scared animals. Many were not even fully stunned when they were killed.

Eating lamb may be an Easter tradition in Italy. But this inhumane violence is unacceptable. Ask the Italian government to step in and stop the cruelty today!
I am writing to ask you to pass laws immediately that will protect the millions of lambs slaughtered for the Easter holiday in Italy.

I understand that eating lamb is a part of the tradition for many families. But the overly cruel way in which many of these animals were treated before their deaths should not be a part of that tradition.

The horrible conditions, many of which were captured on video, included farm managers throwing live baby sheep into trucks, packing them tightly into metal pens, and not stunning them sufficiently before slaughtering them. This is unacceptable.

We call on you to pass comprehensive animal welfare laws to prevent another Easter slaughter like this from happening again.
