Traffic congestion is not only a huge pain for commuters; it is also a major contributor to global warming pollution. These two pains can be alleviated by using new tools like congestion pricing and investing in more efficient transportation infrastructure.
American's transportation sector is responsible for more than 1/4 of America's total global warming emissions. Investment in smarter, more efficient transportation is one of the keys to slowing the effects of global warming and making our cities cleaner and safer. We need programs that will:
Enhance public health, safety and quality of life;
Provide better and more equitable mobility and access;
Minimize global warming pollution emissions;
Enhance economic competitiveness and efficiency
Some states and localities are already taking steps to improve transportation efficiency, but everywhere we can do better.
Tell your governor that you want to see more investment in transportation infrastructure that will help us fight pollution and stop global warming!
We signed the “Tell Your Governor to Invest in Transportation!” petition!

I use the bus and metro system regularly, and I would really appreciate it if more places were accessible through public transportation, if buses and trains were more regular in their routes, and if they were more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly. What with the price of gas rising, public transportation needs to be more efficient, easy to use, and less taxing on our world.

We need more and better public transportation, like Europe.

Public transit is the best way to go when it comes to high gas prices! It's much easier on the environment. More investing in public transit can even mean more bus routes to corporate parks! And on Sundays, people can ride it to church!

This is a much more sensible solution as compared to fighting gas companies and asking them to lower prices. There's no reason gas shouldn't be expensive! It's a limited resource.

Many think that gas prices soaring is a problem, but I see how it can be a motivation for us to re-think our transportation system. By investing in better public transportation early, we can create new industry, jobs, and community development projects all across the state. The time is now. Begin building so that when the gas prices inevitably get too high for the average individual across the U.S. to afford, Ohio will have the infrastructure in place and will become one of the "next best places to live and work."

I live in an area where mass transportation such as rail is not practical. However, I have used light rail when I have been in cities that do have it and I really enjoyed the experience.

I have never owned a car in my life, and let me tell you, Colorado is not very bike/pedestrian/bus riding friendly. On major roads (Colorado Blvd!) there are entire sections *without a sidewalk* - on either side of the street! Buses for the most part run every half hour, and don't go into the 'burbs much or - Gods forbid - outside of the immediate metro area. Light rail is nice, but is still in its infancy stage. We need trains running out to and from Boulder, Fort Collins, Castle Rock, and the Springs. We need buses running more frequently (most people who whine about why they need their cars cite the long waits involved in bus riding, and yes, it is a pain in the neck). We need SIDEWALKS and BIKE PATHS for commuting... we have bike paths for people who want to go out into a park and bike, but none along the roadside for people who want to get to work and errands that way! Ft. Collins was better for bicyclists... but Denver has a long way to go!
