Nauticalia Ltd make life-like ornamental cats for sale in gift shops. These cats are intended to be novelty gifts for people who like animals, but they are made from real rabbit fur! Far from being a ‘tribute to cats’, Nauticalia’s cats condemn rabbits on fur factory farms to a hideous life and probably a painful death (many rabbits are killed by breaking their necks, not an instant death, and others are skinned alive).Nauticalia claims that the rabbit fur is ‘a by-product of sustenance food farming’ in rural China and that the rabbits are not intensively reared, but they refuse to provide details, and we most fiercely doubt this story. In any case, there is no excuse for subsidising that cruel industry, and there is no excuse for profiting from fur.Many larger shops, such as The Gadget Shop, have stopped selling these cats when they learned of the cruelty and unnecessary suffering of the animals in the fur trade – after all, there is no reason why these ornaments cannot be made from faux fur.Please sign this petition and help put a stop this now!
